Six boats turned out for the first Thursday evening sail for this year. The weather cleared in time to provide partly cloudy skies, plenty of sunshine, and moderate, but shifting and at times gusty winds. Three races were sailed with starts and finishes in front of the Bateman Island Marina docks allowing good viewing for spectators. Outside of the marina area the Columbia River's Spring season flow resulted in surprising current especially at the downwind turning mark where it was running fast adding to the challenges. Sailing was followed by an informal get together and light meeting at Kimo's restaurant.

Four boats sailed on Saturday in winds estimated at 8-12 mph and sunny skies. The predicted rain and thunderstorms did not materialize providing good sailing weather for the Thistle and Flying Scot sailors and allowing for the completion of three races. The occasional wind gusts were present adding to the challenges of upwind sailing. Unlike last Thursday's sail on the Columbia, current on the Snake River was barely noticeable and not a factor at the turning marks. Sailors met for post race lunch at The Burbank. Thanks to Ray Peters for running race starts from the race-committee shore location, and to Doug and Kathy for taking care of the marks. Race #1 (S-1P-3S-F). Race #2 (S-1P-3S-F). Race #3 (S-1P-F). All races used whistle starts.

Three boats participated in the 2nd Fun Sail Thursday night. The July weather provided for good sailing with clear skies, 7 - 9 mph winds, shifty especially near shore, flat water, stiff current at the turning marks, and warm mid 90 deg temperatures. Three 20-30 minute races were sailed with starts and finishes in front of the Bateman Island Marina docks and Kimos Restaurant allowing good viewing for spectators. Sailing was followed by an informal get together at Kimos. Thanks for all who participated and especially new and visiting crews.

Four boats sailed in the 3rd mid-week event this year. The typical August weather provided clear skies, and mid 90° F temperatures, and 4-7 MPH SSW winds. Columbia River conditions included flat water, and challenging current at the downwind mid channel turning mark, especially in dying winds. Spinnakers were used for all race starts. Three 15-30 minute races were sailed with starts and finishes in front of the Bateman Island Marina docks and Kimos Restaurant. Crews met at Kimos after packing up the boats. Due to sailor interest a 4th Bateman Island Fun Sail may be added to the sailing calendar if time permits in the 2010 club schedule.
